A1 Systems together with Ooredoo Oman have put the Emergency Alert System based on A1S Broadcast and A1S CBC products into commercial operation.
In emergency situations, technological and natural disasters, government and emergency services need reliable means of mass warning messages. Widespread pervasiveness of cellular network makes a mobile phone the most suitable means of spreading official information that can help to warn people about impending danger in time, and direct them to safety or alert them about undesired actions.
The installed solution for emergency alerts uses Cell Broadcast technology which allows to deliver a text message at the same time to unlimited number of subscribers in selected cells. The technology works reliably even in overloaded networks. The deployment of similar systems was performed by all MNOs of the Sultanate of Oman within a specific government program.
In the course of the project, A1S CBC, the own Cell Broadcast center of A1 Systems, has been deployed in MNO data center. A1S CBC is a necessary transport node that connects to MNO’s BSC and provides broadcasting of text messages. The staff of emergency services of the Sultanate of Oman have accessed to A1S Broadcast web interface that is also installed in Ooredoo Oman. A1S Broadcast interacts with A1S CBC and is intended to manage broadcasts within selected geographic areas.
The deployed solution supports broadcasting within all types of Ooredoo Oman networks – 2G, 3G and 4G – and compatible with EU specification EU-ALERT (European Public Warning System).
